Beyoncé to close Glastonbury

Beyoncé is closing down this year's Glastonbury event in Britain, two years after her husband Jay-Z was the headline act.

"This actually is the largest festival in the world and I cannot wait to present there. Everyone who attends is really thankful of music and is in such a good mood," said the R&B superstar in a declaration released Friday.

The outdoor event, near Pilton in southwest England, is one of the largest and best-known of its kind. The Grammy-winning singer said she attended the 2008 event as a fan, watching her husband's presentation.

At the time, several British rock acts, including Oasis's Noel Gallagher, criticized the inclusion of a rapper at the festival. Jay-Z's performance silenced many of them as reviewers heaped praise on him for his vigorous stage act.

Beyoncé is set to do a 90-minute performance at Glastonbury, now in its 41st year. Irish rockers U2 are supposedly opening the festival, which runs from June 22-26.

The band had been forced to cancel its 2010 opening appearance when lead singer Bono injured his back.

U2 posted a message on its website back in October that fans should try and get their hands on tickets for the 2011 festival.
